Create Starter Questions

Starter Questions are part of the "welcome mat" experience skilly displays on behalf of your organization: think of them like icebreakers or warm introductions you extend to your users, giving them inspiration and direction from the jump. You're probably familiar with these Starter Questions, even if you haven't customized them yet:

These questions provide a springboard for the ever-increasing number of users who prefer conversation to navigation, while also funneling inquiries on your most popular topics toward their most direct answers built into your Q&A.

Verbatim Starter Q&As

There are now two approaches to creating Starter Questions, and both start by navigating to your AI Agent > Customize tab. Your first option is to write an open-ended question that doesn't exist in your Q&As; simply enter your text into the box, and you'll have a Starter Question that skilly will answer on the fly whenever a user chooses it. Note you can also move your question to prioritize its visibility:

Your second option is to create a Verbatim Question, which pulls from your Q&A bank. You'd do this when you want skilly to provide the exact response you or another team member wrote into the Answer section of this particular question. If we go back to the idea of the "welcome mat" experience, you can see how it may be beneficial to present your users with an initial skilly experience that starts its conversation the same way every time. And in such scenarios, you'd likely want to use this option.

To create a Verbatim Question:

  • Click "Select Q&A" when it appears in the new question's blank text box
  • Choose a question from your Q&A bank
  • Preview the answer and decide whether you'd like to edit it
  • Click "+Add Q&A" to add it to your Starter Questions

That's it! If you're curious about more best practices in Starter Questions, feel free to reach out to the skilly team as always.
